Lack and Excess > Too Many Wives or Too Many Lives
Theoretical move: Comedy is constitutively grounded in the structural identity of lack and excess: the subject's constitutive lack produces and coincides with excessive objects/responses, generating humor precisely at the moment of their mutual implication; when lack and excess separate and the everyday social order is restored, comedy ends.
In both cases, lack produces and coincides with excess... Comedy continues only insofar as lack and excess sustain an evident relation with each other. At the moment when they separate, the routine of the everyday returns with all its force, and comedy comes to an end.
