Capital, especially in its modern financial form, works like a ghost — it's not made of anything you can touch, but it shapes everything in the real world. The really tricky part is that pretending the ghost doesn't exist, and insisting we just deal with "real" everyday problems, is actually the deepest form of being fooled by it.
