This is what distinguishes the symbolic order from natural correlation: nature yields regularities without a constitutive gap, while the symbolic order is structured by an element that is "missing from its own place," the Lacanian object = x (objet petit a), whose retroactive movement generates the asymmetry of cause and effect in the first place.
