In this view, thought is not merely the subjective correlate of an independently existing natural order but an active cosmological agent: intelligence, having reached its highest potency, takes on the function of reversing entropic collapse and re-initiating the universe itself. This is not metaphor but ontological claim — mind is assigned a place within the causal-physical structure of reality, effectively reversing the Kantian restriction of cognition to the sphere of possible experience.

Žižek's theoretical move is to diagnose this position as a symptomatic regression. Rather than confronting the radical negativity that lies at the core of modern subjectivity — the Lacanian insight that the subject is constitutively split, marked by irreducible lack, and structurally alienated from any organic "being-in-the-world" — these Western Marxists retreat toward either a naive-realist ontology of levels (the Engelsian hierarchy of material organization) or a premodern cosmological fantasy in which human reason occupies a privileged place in the cosmic order. The phrase "highest potency" is theoretically loaded because it assigns to human intelligence an Aristotelian-teleological maximum — a summit of actualization — that directly inverts the Lacanian structure of the subject as constitutively lacking and split. The verb "relaunch" further implies that thought stands outside the universe's causal order, able to restart it as if from a position of pure sovereignty, making explicit the fantasy of a subject freed from the structural alienation and negation that Lacan takes to be irremediable.
